MC.202

The Italians were good at making aircraft that were maneuverable and pleasant to fly, but not so good at making high-performance engines. Aeronautica Macci sidestepped this problem by importing some German DB601's, the same engine that powered the Me109, dropping it into the obsolescent MC.200, and the Folgore was born. It was an excellent aircraft, albeit somewhat underarmed, and continued in service until the end of the war.
